From their home page, go to the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC). This centre certifies nurses in defined functional and clinical areas of nursing. Accreditation through ANCC is recognized by most state licensing boards. Organizations approved through ANCC approvers are also recognized through most state licensing boards.

    This is a link to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the statutory regulatory body for nursing, midwifery and health visiting in the United Kingdom. The NMC establishes and monitors professional standards for nurses, midwives and health visitors in the UK. All nurses who trained outside the UK need to be registered with the NMC in order to practice as a nurse in the UK.   • Canadian Resident Matching Service
    The Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS) is a not-for-profit, fee-for-service organization that works in close cooperation with medical schools and students to provide a computer match for entry into accredited postgraduate medical training. CaRMS provides a good way for applicants to decide where to train and for program directors to decide which applicants they wish to enroll in accredited postgraduate medical training.
     

  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
    The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) is a national, private, nonprofit organization established in 1929 to oversee the medical education of specialists in Canada. The College is not a licensing or disciplinary body; its mission is educational and dedicated to setting standards. The RCPSC ensures that the training and evaluation of medical and surgical specialists in 56 specialties and 2 special programs attain the highest standards. Currently, the College has over 34,000 members worldwide.
     

  • College of Family Physicians of Canada
    The College of Family Physicians of Canada is a Canadian national voluntary organization of family physicians that makes continuing medical education of its members mandatory. The College has a voluntary membership of over 15,000 family physicians across Canada.
     

  • Federation of Medical Licensing Authorities of Canada
    If you are in the field of medical regulation or have a particular interest in this area, this organization will provide, along with information resources, an opportunity to interact and develop a personal network with others who are involved in this field.
     

  • Medical Research Council of Canada
    The mandate of the Medical Research Council of Canada (MRC) is to promote basic, applied and clinical research in Canada in the health sciences. The MRC administers research grants, awards to research personnel, network and linkage development, and consultative processes.

  • British Medical Association
    The British Medical Association represents all doctors from all branches of medicine all over the UK. About 80% of practicing doctors are members, as are 12,000 medical students and nearly 4,000 members overseas.
     

  • Institute of General Practice
    The Institute of General Practice was the first postgraduate Department of General Practice in the United Kingdom and was established on 1 December 1973 with the remit of developing vocational training for general practice.   In 1993 it became the first Institute of General Practice. It exists to develop general practice and primary care and does so through research, teaching, and professional development of all those working in primary care.
     

  • Royal College of General Practitioners
    The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) is the academic organization in the UK for general practitioners. Its aim is to encourage and maintain the highest standards of general medical practice and act as the ‘voice’ of general practitioners on education, training and standards issues. The word ‘College’ is a little misleading because the RCGP doesn’t have students or lectures in the normal sense of the word. Traditionally, medical organizations concerned with professional studies have been known as ‘colleges’ - hence the use of the word. In practice, the Royal College of General Practitioners is a network of around 18,000 doctors who are committed to improving patient care, developing their own skills and developing general practice.

    The Royal Society of Medicine is an independent, apolitical organization, founded nearly 200 years ago. The society aims to provide a broad range of educational activities and opportunities for doctors, dentists, and veterinary surgeons, including students of these disciplines; and allied health-care professionals.

     

  • Royal Pharmaceutical Society
    The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain is the regulatory and professional body for pharmacists in all aspects of practice. It has a statutory duty to maintain the register of pharmacists and pharmacy premises. There are currently 43,000 member pharmacists working in all sectors of the profession both in Britain and overseas. About 22,000 members work in community pharmacy, 5,500 in hospitals and 1,600 in the pharmaceutical industry. Others work in research, teaching, in health authorities and in related activities.
